On Thursday the API Department's Open Berkeley service launched the 125th release of the campus standard web platform. Like all regular releases, v 0.22.0 includes new and updated features, minor code updates, and security updates. This release is special though in its launch of a new feature, key to enabling our users to tell compelling stories with data visualizations that are accessible:

The API Department's Web Access team helps units all over UC Berkeley assess how their websites and other technologies work for people with disabilities, and recommends improvements where needed.

Our 2018 Gallup employee engagement survey results are in -- and the API department held steady in the top quartile. In our results (just out this month), the API department as a whole ranks at 77%. Our overall score for 2018 is 4.07, compared with 4.02 for the central IT average that includes IST/RTL/SAIT/CSS-IT & Healthcare-IT, (and the 4.09 we got last year vs. 4.05 for the IST average). For 2018, IST made an effort to work on the "I know what is expected of me at work" question.

The API team turned out in force yesterday for our annual holiday get together. A big thank you to API's Marlita Kahn for putting this together, and to all those team members who showed up for all the fun at Eureka! There was a white elephant gift exchange which showcased quite a range of interesting presents, with Bernie Rossi Above, Bernie officiating the gift exchange.
